Camp Max Straus

Camp Max Straus is a phenomenal experience for California's youth, providing a quality camping experience and leadership development...- Paul Krekorian, Assemblymember, 43rd District

Camp Max Straus is designed to maintain a positive, restorative camping environment. The overall camper to staff ratio is a 2 to 1 during the day and 5 to 1 in the sleeping cabins. The professional staff carefully selects and trains counselors and program specialists. All staff members are hired on the basis of their experience, educational course work and career goals.
  • Most of our seasonal staff are college students and many of them are majoring in child-related fields such as child psychology, social work and education.
  • All staff are required to attend and complete a six-day staff training program that includes topics such as child abuse and ADHD; many of our staff are first aid and CPR-certified.
  • The Camp maintains a fulltime  on-site Registered Nurse and an on-call staff doctor.
