Thanks to you....we are serving 3,000 children annually. Please help us help as many children as possible reach their true potential. |
Big Mountain is a three-day outdoor environmental education program available to public and private Los Angeles schools. It promotes California State standards-based education in an outdoor setting for 5th and 6th grade students. This program is operated by Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles in collaboration with Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority. Big Mountain continues the overall mission to help children in our community achieve their true potential, regardless of race, religion or ability to pay.
Big Mountain has much to offer your school:
*Located at Camp Max Straus on 112 acres in the nearby Verdugo Hills of Glendale, just 19 miles from downtown LA
*Customized curriculum, including standards-based lessons, leadership building activities, and environmental education
*Taking a page from the classroom textbooks: Children are exposed to core areas such as science, history, social studies and lessons in conservation and sustainability
*Trained naturalists and overnight cabin staff provide constant support and supervision
* Nutritional and well-balanced meals are provided throughout the experience. In addition, JBBBS has formed an agreement with the Rabbinic Council of California for kashrut supervision available by request to participating schools.
