[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles (JBBBSLA) today announces the kickoff of its “30 Bigs in 30 Days” campaign, a bold effort to recruit 30 new adult mentors—“Bigs”—over the next 30 days. This initiative responds to the growing number of Jewish youth in greater Los Angeles who are waiting for caring, consistent mentorship through JBBBSLA’s one-to-one programs.

JBBBSLA has long been a leader in supporting youth through its Mentorship, Camp Bob Waldorf, and College Access + Success initiatives. Through personalized mentor-child (“Big”/“Little”) matches, the organization fosters strong relationships that enhance self-confidence, school performance, emotional well-being, and long-term opportunity.

“A caring adult can change the trajectory of a child’s life,” said Cari Uslan, CEO of JBBBSLA. “With 30 new Bigs, we can ensure more Jewish youth have someone who listens, encourages, and walks alongside them during some of their most formative years. As we begin a new year of reflection and renewal, there’s no better time to give back. You can make a lasting impact in a child’s life while creating a meaningful, personal experience.”

Why This Campaign Matters

  • Countless Littles Awaiting: Many Jewish children and teenagers are currently on the waiting list for a mentor. The “30 Bigs in 30 Days” campaign aims to close that gap quickly.
  • Proven Impact: Previous “30 Bigs in 30 Days” efforts have energized the community, brought in mentors who go on to sustain long-term relationships, and raised awareness about the vital importance of mentorship.
  • Strengthening the Community: Mentoring not only benefits Littles—who gain a trusted friend, confidant, and role model—but also Bigs and the broader community. Many Bigs report that the experience enriches their lives with purpose, perspective, and connection.
  • Shorter Commitments, Increased accessibility: JBBBSLA recently launched a NEW 6-month only commitment requirement to enable more volunteers to become Bigs

Amanda, a Big for 3 months now, shared, “You’re asking me how I found JBBBSLA, but the more important question is why I decided to be a Big. It was 9 months after October 7, and I felt like given everything else going on in the world, it was something I could do to make an impact on a young person’s life.”

Call to Action: Become a Big Today

JBBBSLA is seeking Jewish adults age 21 and over who are ready to commit approximately 2-3 hours every two weeks to spend time with a Little. No special skills are needed—just kindness, consistency, and a desire to make a difference. All Bigs undergo background checks, training, and receive ongoing support from JBBBSLA staff.

How to participate:

  • Visit www.jbbbsla.org → Become a Mentor
  • Attend one of the upcoming online info sessions
  • Connect with current Bigs and Littles to hear their stories

Big Sister Corine (2 ½ years) said, “It’s so nice for her to have someone other than her mom that she can talk to especially now that she’s a teenager.

“I never expected the impact mentoring would have on me as a mentor,” said a current Big Sharon (3 years). “Seeing the growth in my Little—her confidence, her excitement, her voice—is the greatest reward.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

Mentoring is a rewarding, meaningful volunteer experience unlike any other.

Be a Big. Make a lasting difference.

Over 30 littles are on a waiting list for their Big, their mentor. With a minimum time commitment of 6-months, Bigs can now start with their Little and create impacts in as little as just 2 hours every 2 weeks.
