About the App

Teen Talk is an iPhone app where trained teens can anonymously provide support to fellow teens. On Teen Talk, teens can talk about anything from anxiety, depression, relationships, family issues, school, and beyond. JBBBSLA wants to empower teens to become mentors to their peers. In addition to the benefits of the app, we are also building a community of empathetic teens. These trained teens can be ambassadors for positive social and emotional health. The app is free and easy to use.

Background

Teen Talk is a response to research that shows that teens naturally seek advice from their peers. Research also shows that teens prefer to communicate electronically. Teen Talk offers teens a safe, confidential place to get support from teens who have received mental health training.

JBBBSLA created Teen Talk in partnership with Teen Line. Teen Line is a leader in teen mental health. They have operated a teen crisis hotline out of Cedars Sinai Hospital since 1980. They have a well-established teen advisor training program that they have adapted for Teen Talk trainees. Teen Line trains teens to develop the skills necessary to be empathetic listeners capable of giving sound advice. The unique and innovative app was built by Textpert, a top technology developer.
