My name is Wendy Kellner. My journey with Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters began when I became a Big Sister. For nearly two years now, I’ve had the privilege of being matched with my Little Sister, Sarah, who is quirky, creative, funny, and incredibly special to me. Being her Big isn’t just something I do; it’s a relationship I cherish and a commitment I carry with my whole heart.
From that relationship, my involvement naturally grew. I joined the Youth Mentoring Committee, serving on the Recruitment Subcommittee because I want more children to experience the kind of connection Sarah and I share. I also serve on the Match Activities Subcommittee because the magic isn’t only in the match—it’s in the meaningful moments we create together. And now, as a new board member, I’m honored to use my time and talents to help strengthen and expand our Jewish-inspired connections.
Since October 7th, JBBBSLA has been intentional about looking for ways to create more Jewish holiday, cultural, and ritual experiences for our Bigs and Littles—helping our community feel grounded, connected, and proud. As a retired Jewish educator, having served for many years as a teacher, a mentor, a school administrator and leader, I feel especially called to this work. Among other things, I’m currently developing a fun, Jewish-infused curriculum for future cultural sessions at Camp Bob Waldorf, using food, art, and ritual objects as joyful entry points into Jewish identity and practice—along with parent and guardian emails to help extend those connections at home.
I serve because I believe deeply in this mission. I stay because I see the impact—firsthand. And I am fully committed—to Sarah, to our Littles, and to the future we are building together.
