Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters Of Los Angeles
Presents Over $67,650 In 2025 Nelson Scholarship Awards Ceremony
Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles (JBBBSLA) hosted its annual Arnold S. Nelson Scholarship Awards Event at Camp Bob Waldorf in Glendale, CA. The event welcomed over 60 guests to honor the 20 students who received $67,650 in scholarships through JBBBSLA’s Arnold S. Nelson Scholarship Program.
The Arnold S. Nelson Scholarship supports Camp Bob Waldorf campers who attended camp for at least two summers and completed the Witherbee Wilderness Backpacking trip. These emerging leaders are eligible for scholarship support every year they are fully enrolled in college. The event featured speeches from several scholarship recipients.
Scholarship recipient Miya Zborovksy shared, “I first came to Camp Bob Waldorf five summers ago. At the time, I was just a kid looking for a new summer experience. Though what I found was so much more. I found a second home. I found a community. I found some of my closest friends. But most importantly, I found a place where I felt safe to grow, to question, to struggle, and to lead. I found my voice. Camp Bob Waldorf isn’t just a summer camp it’s a space built around values, tradition, growth, and belonging. Values built on the camp pillars of community, respect, identity, and inclusion.”
“Camp Bob Waldorf is an incredible place. Since 1938, our camp has been giving children from across Los Angeles an experience they can’t have anywhere else. Camp helps children learn, grow, and become our future leaders,” shared JBBBSLA CEO Cari Uslan.
The Arnold S. Nelson Scholarship program started nearly 30 years ago to help campers succeed in college and life by providing financial assistance.
Scholarship committee member, Greg Nelson shared, “I am proud to be part of the scholarship committee and happy to be here to help present the scholarships to so many deserving campers. Last year, the namesake of this scholarship, Arnie Nelson, passed away. We still miss him. This scholarship helps his legacy live on today. Arnie always said that if you take care of kids you ensure a brighter future and looking at all of you here today, I feel confident that you will help create a better future.”
JBBBSLA thanks all who made these scholarships possible, including its donors, board members, Scholarship Committee members, and partners at JFEDLA.
