Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters Of Los Angeles
Presents Over $300,000 In Scholarship Awards To 49 Students
Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles (JBBBSLA) hosted its Annual Scholarship Awards Event on Sunday, June 22 at a private residence in Bel Air, CA. The event welcomed over 125 guests to honor the 49 students who received over $300,000 in scholarships through JBBBSLA’s Scholarship Programs including the Rising Leaders Scholarship Program and the Plost Scholarship Program.
Since 1990, JBBBSLA has awarded over 620 students with over $4.2 million in scholarships to pursue higher education. In order to inspire the potential of youth, JBBBSLA remains committed to supporting the educational aspirations of its mentees and campers.
“Our annual scholarship awards event is one of the most meaningful moments of the year for me. It’s a powerful reminder of what’s possible when we invest in young people. Each student we support is working hard to build a brighter future for themselves and their families, and knowing that JBBBSLA can help them take the next step in their journey is incredibly moving,” shared JBBBSLA CEO Cari Uslan.
The JBBBSLA Scholarship is a core initiative, providing financial assistance to motivated and accomplished mentees pursuing post-secondary education. The Rising Leaders Scholarship benefits campers who attended Camp Bob Waldorf for three summer sessions and served as Leaders in Training. The event featured speeches from several scholarship recipients.
Scholar Alexa Kendell shared, “As a result of JBBBSLA’s financial assistance, I was able to attend UC Davis with financial support. I was also able to focus entirely on my education, rather than my financial stability. I am immensely grateful for such assistance and would not be where I am today without it. I dedicate much of my success to JBBBS, not only through the JBBBSLA Scholarship Program, but also by giving me Aleah, someone who supported me through every moment.”
JBBBSLA thanks all who made these scholarships possible, including its donors, board members, Scholarship Committee members, and partners at Jewish Federation Los Angeles.
Our JBBBSLA Scholarship Committee Chair Heidi Praw added, “Our scholarship program was founded in 1990 by Bob Aronoff. He recognized the need to help our Littles pursue their dreams beyond high school. Education has the power to transform lives. Unfortunately, the rising cost of higher education puts that opportunity out of reach for many students. By providing scholarships, we can help remove financial barriers and create a pathway to success.”
JBBBSLA remains deeply grateful to the community of supporters who make these life-changing scholarships possible. Together, we are not only alleviating financial burdens but also fostering a legacy of empowerment, education, and opportunity for generations to come.
