Last year, JBBBSLA matched 1,645 young people with mentors, camp leaders, and college counselors who believed in them. Youth in our programs feel more connected to school, less alone, and more confident about their future. This is what mentoring produces when it’s done right, consistently, and with care.

Why mentoring works.

The research is clear. According to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America’s national outcomes data, youth in mentoring relationships experience measurable, lasting changes.

Connection & Belonging

A Big adds one more trusted adult who listens without agenda, shows up consistently, and helps a child build confidence on their own terms. More people in their corner means a stronger foundation.

School & Learning

82% of youth strengthen their engagement with school. They attend more regularly, participate more in class, and feel more confident as learners.

Health & Safety

Youth in mentoring relationships abuse substances 41% less than their peers. The presence of a caring adult makes a difference in the choices they make.

College & Career

Youth in our programs are 20% more likely to pursue college. By age 25, they earn 15% more than peers without mentoring.

Mentoring creates mentors.

The impact doesn’t end when a mentoring match concludes. Some of our former Littles become Bigs. Others return to JBBBSLA as donors, volunteers, or staff. They’re showing up for the next generation because they remember what it felt like to have someone show up for them.
